Gate maintenance for electric gate | Gate Safe

Here are some important things to consider

What to do if the gate stops working?

If your gate stops working, it becomes a safeguarding issue. Please do not attempt to fix it yourselves, other than by undertaking the basic checks such as the removal of any debris in front of the photocells – this should have been detailed at the time of handover of the gate/machine. Only a competent and trained installer should be called upon to inspect the gate. Gates are machines that require specialist knowledge and expertise to ensure they are operating safely.

Keeping documents safe and to hand

Once the gate has been installed the installer should provide a handover pack that will include:

  • Location of control cabinet keys and manual release keys
  • Details of how to put the gate into manual operation
  • Contact details for maintenance / emergency call out
  • A maintenance log book

Ensure these documents are kept safe and are readily available in case the installer needs to access them or they are required in an emergency.

Importance of Maintenance
All automated gates require routine maintenance. Have your gate checked by a trained and competent installer at least every six months. Regular maintenance ensures all safety features are functioning and identifies any system changes that might compromise the safe operation of the gate.
